Miscellaneous Information
Milton was born on 17 September 1914 at Veregin, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and he was a farmer and his mother was born in Belfast, Ireland. He had a brother Leith James and two sisters Marjorie Ellen who was in the RCAF and Annabel Margaret who was married. There was also another brother R/70534 F/Sgt. Alan Buchan Harper was a WOp/AG with 57 Squadron but sadly lost his life on 23 June 1942 when his aircraft crashed into the sea. He was born on 21 February 1920 at Kamsack, Saskatchewan and enlisted on 14 August 1940. Milton enjoyed most sports and was a truck driver until enlistment. Milton went to school in Kamsack, Saskatchewan: The Public School 1921-1929, followed by Kamsack High 1929-1931 (grade 10) he then returned 1934-1935 (grade 12) Between 1935-1936 he took an Agriculture Degree Course. During the years 1931-1934 and again 1936-1938, Milton was working on the farm with his father. Apart from working as an Agent for Albert Olson in Regina for a year he continued in farm work and also spent a year as a foreman working in the bush. He enjoyed most sporting activities and was also a keen fisherman. |
He enlisted on 29 May 1941 and after completing his training was posted to the U.K. where he arrived on 14 April 1942. He then went to 10 AFU on 5 June1942, 19 OTU 14 July 1942, and 97 Squadron on 24 November 1942. Sadly Milton also lost his life just six months after his brother, on 20 December 1942 |
The remains of the aircraft and 4 crew were found in September 1962 when during construction of the IJtunnel. The remains of all four airmen were laid to rest in Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery on 20 December 1962. |
